Tri-Cartel Blanche

A D&D Campaign Setting
(Redirected from Cartographers)

Three guilds, clans, or organizations (depending on the country's laws and definitions) hold power throughout the world. These groups are often more powerful than any particular noble house or station and are held out of national squabbles even beyond religions. Collectively, they are referred to as the “Tri-Cartel Blanche,” or “The Three” for short.

Cartographers' Guild

The layout of the world is a constantly shifting mystery – at least to the laymen of the world. The Cartographers' Guild is a multinational group who keep up-to-date maps of every piece of land they know of – for a price. Members of the guild are entitled to the archives: older maps that have passed their copyright expiration. Additionally, members of the guild mostly operate their own businesses (occasionally in service to a nation or house) for profit.

Miners' Guild

Mining is a dangerous business, albeit a necessary one for the survival of all life on Mondevai. Many rulers might be inclined to press the poor unfortunates into the mines for cheap labor were it not for the Guild. Standard pay rates, work hours, and availability are laid out by the guild and all of its members when a new dig begins. To anger the guild is to threaten the supply of Fahrstone that keeps your people alive… and dead.

Archeralds' Guild

Within the Confederacy of the Scale especially, the search for the lost pieces of Sigil is a lucrative business. The presence of dangerous artifacts and portals has led to a world treaty to identify all of these sites and record their contents. When exploring an enclave (a buried portion of the city), a member of the guild must be present to notarize all claims and discoveries, as well as the portal address. While the information is known to the guild and accessible with proper forms, it is kept strictly confidential without clearance from the claimant.
