Introduction
Mondevai: a world where giant quakes rearrange the bustling cities, tumultuous oceans, and lush forests in an unending rearrangement. Nations strive and people toil for supremacy in a world bathed in chaos. Immortals wander among men, trying to preserve the little of a forgotten paradise that remains. The planet, cracked along thousands of unnatural faults, is drawn after the artifacts they hold.

The survivors of a prehistoric disaster have spread and changed. They work and they build, staving off encroachment from a supernatural plague that threatens all life. Forgotten Enclaves holding the remnants of a lost civilization rise to the surface and the mighty races of the scale compete to master the legacy of the ancients. Beneath the surface, men ride on torrents of water and magic, using the altered mantle of the world as an enormous trade route for their goods. Deeper still, some guard the border of the Shadowfell and fight to keep the dead from resurfacing.

✦ The Book of Mondevai contains campaign and character-specific material.

✦ Focusing upon the continent of Letier, the world is the planet Mondevai.

✦ Races are the allowed races of the campaign, and their histories.

✦ Different religions are followed throughout the world, and offer different mechanical benefits.

World
While different religions have their explanations for its existence, one thing is for sure: Flux is a force alien to Vai, and it seeks to destroy matter – particularly sentient beings – and reconstruct it into new forms. The substance called "Fahrstone" acts to influence The Flows, of which Flux is a one of many, and different forms allow for varying magics. Arcane magic is that of the manipulation of Vim and Vigor, while ‘divine’ magic is provided by the verogods. Rigor presents the unending threat of the undead, returning the bodies of the once living to the world to haunt its people.

Without the presence of white Fahrstone, Flux is attracted to large groups of sentient creatures, and an appropriately sized portion of the mineral is required to prevent annihilation. Rigor, too, is staved off within the mineral’s power. Thus, Fahrstone is below only food and water in resource value on Mondevai. Fahrstone is extremely flammable, and the colored types interact in strange ways, e.g., red Fahrstone opens a portal to hell when lit. Larger chunks of colored Fahrstone are resistant to more intense flames.

The Verogods wield ancient artifacts that cause the Flows to follow after them, willingly or unwillingly. As they move throughout the world, the planet physically shifts behind them, creating an ever-changing surface that the peoples of Mondevai must struggle to survive in. Mondevai has no moon. However, a planetary ring of thousands of small objects circles the equator. Therefore, the tides on the planet are effectively nonexistent.

Due to the constantly changing nature of the planet's surface, one collective guild has immense influence across all boundaries- the cartographers' guild. Members of the guild typically are granted diplomatic immunity in exchange for up-to-date maps of the explored lands. Both the miners' and the archeralds' guilds also hold heavy influence upon nations.

Gaps, seas, and gas bubbles beneath Letier and the Wandering Isles allow some peoples to live beneath the surface of the planet. This region is called the Underdark. From these solid, populated areas rivers flow down into the core: The Shadowfell.

The Shadowfell is the region where souls descend to prior to their (in many faiths) reincarnation, and is heavily saturated by Rigor. It is the alleged home of the Vigils. From the rivers on the surface, water travels into the underdark and continues down until all the rivers begin to form an intricate web. From here, a soul and its body must navigate the waterway to Muericho, the city of the dead. As would be expected, not all souls successfully navigate passage, and are instead separated from their corporeal selves. Caught in rising currents, the bodies of these unfortunates rush upward and are deposited as soulless undead upon riverbanks. Even water sources on Letier make men wary, as undead outbreaks from a blocked passage can wipe out a community in hours.</text>
