This is a religious page. All 'facts' presented as history may be disputed by those not affiliated with this order.

In the wild places of the world, the Cosmic Church holds little sway over the beliefs of the populace. Clerics from the Faith hold that the Sylvans are merely a misled branch of the Jaklodin church, but the truth is that Sylvanism predates the official founding of the Church by millenia. The woodland fey revere the natural wonders of the world, and seek to preserve it against threats both mortal and divine. Not all druids and shamans follow the Sylvan path, but most of the magical followers of Sylvanism count themselves among that group.

Background

The world is dying. A slow death, and one that can only be stopped by the unending ministrations of her children. The diseases of hubris, heresy, and ambivalence ravage the body of Vai. Her faithful dwellers in forests, caves, and streams seek to help her where they can, and preserve what they may.

History of the Plagues

Before mortal memory, Vai was a paradise. Mankind lived eternally in her splendor, until the arrogance of one man brought disaster upon the world. Warped by the whispers of the One-Behind-the-Sun, Vai’s favorite son sought to remake the face of Vai in his own image. The emperor of Sigil raised great towers to his name and reaped the bounties of the wilderness for his own profit.

From the darkness beyond, the Vigils saw his irreverence and moved.

True laws do not discriminate great from small. All those who reveled in the blasphemies of Banikon were smote by the Vigils and driven beneath the world. Their devastation wreaked havoc on Vai, and drove her to the brink of death. A select few showed false obeisance to the Vigils, and were permitted exile to faraway lands. The Danzamal left Vai, forbidden from her gardens. Fahr guards the border, preventing their return. They perpetually attempt to break through him, their dark minds bent on reclaiming what they believe to be theirs.

From those true to Vai, two were spared. Jaklodin the gardener and his wife Hlyn the she-bear left the kingdom of Sigil and began to wander, nurturing what little was left of the world. Nevertheless, the Flows were already unleashed. Death had come to paradise.

Still, the Vigils watch over the world, their magical Flows burying the wicked and aiding the just. Still, the Danzamal force through their way through Fahr to reclaim their world. Still, the One-Behind-the-Sun whispers to men. Still, the world teeters over oblivion.
