Soxitl was career military, joining a Tibanese army in preparation for some conflict. He met a yuan-ti woman and started a family. Soxitl's first child, {taylor's character} came out human. He and his wife handled it pretty well, trying to give him a normal life and opportunities. Soxitl was minorly promoted after the conflict resolved but relative peace made service boring and largely unfruitful.
After the conflict, Soxitl's cousin Patli, a more scholarly sort than Soxitl, took his exploration to the far-off Ginwil. He sent letters back to the family during his travels, telling of people he met, sketching rough maps, and trying to track rumors heard of strange ruins. Soxitl read and kept up with Patli's correspondence, living vicariously through some of the promise of discovery and seeing new places. The letters turned scared towards the end as Patli described run-ins with a tribe of aggressive eladrin. The last letter described a raid on his camp, people seriously injured, and a reluctant thought that maybe he'd have to head home without finding his destination. No other letters were ever received, and Patli hasn't been heard from since.

Soxitl arranged to exit from his military post and trade influence from that for a charge to head a scouting force. Heading back to Zantaashi, he used sources his wife had known to connect with a colonizing effort from Zantaashi to Ginwil. He found others willing to venture into Ginwil ahead of the colonial group to scout, map, and make the area safe. Bearing the letters from Patli, he also hopes for an opportunity to discover the Enclave his cousin lost his life seeking.
